Considering these magical ladies’ accessories, one can trace the preferences of fashionistas of different eras, admire the work of masters of China, Japan, France, Italy, Spain, Austria, Germany, England, Russia, and plunge into the history of fan art.
Veer combined the skill of a lace-maker, engraver, painter, carver, jeweler, turning from an expensive overseas souvenir into an exquisite accessory for the ladies’ toilet. From the end of the 17th century until the 1920s, it served its owners, changing with the trends of capricious fashion. Veer demonstrated the taste and social status of the ladies, skillful possession of them made it possible to emphasize the virtues and hide the flaws of his owner. The age of flirtatious marquis and seductive gentlemen created the “fan language”, which allows not to hide their sympathies in the world.
Peter I was introduced to the Russian empire of the veil - so often called fans - in the 18th century, and they became fashionable with the ascension to the throne of Elizaveta Petrovna, a famous fashionista, and already under Catherine II they became an integral part of the ladies’ toilet.
