Examining these magical ladies’ accessories, one can trace the preferences of women of fashion from different eras, admire the work of masters from China, Japan, France, Italy, Spain, Austria, Germany, England, Russia, and plunge into the history of fan art.
Veer combined the skills of a lacemaker, engraver, painter, carver, jeweler, turning from an expensive overseas souvenir into an exquisite accessory for a ladies’ toilet. From the end of the XVII century until the 1920s, he served his owners, changing with the trends of capricious fashion. The fan showed the lady’s taste and social status, skillful possession of them made it possible to emphasize the virtues and hide the shortcomings of its owner. The age of flirtatious marquises and seductive gentlemen created the "language of the fan", which allows not to conceal their sympathies in the world.
Peter the Great got into the Russian Empire - that’s what they used to call fans — in the 18th century, and they came into fashion with the accession to the throne of Elizabeth Petrovna, a famous fashionista, and already under Catherine II they became an integral part of the ladies’ toilet.
