The book “The April Theses” by the photographer and journalist David Monteleon (April Theses, 2017), dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the October Revolution, is devoted to the “Russian” topic. Here he recreates a chronology of events from the two weeks of Lenin’s life that occurred on the eve of the publication of his April Theses, a document that, in essence, determined the future course of Russian history. Based on archival materials, partially included in the book, Monteleone in detail repeated the route by which Lenin returned from Zurich to Petrograd in 1917. He traveled through Germany, Sweden and Finland, creating a series of landscapes and staged self-portraits in which he appears in the image of a leader. For Monteleone, the creation of the book is caused, first of all, by the desire to reflect on both the subject of history and the attitude of modern society towards it.
