April 26 at the Museum of Moscow will open an exhibition dedicated to the architectural ensemble, where the museum is now located. The exposition will be built around the three hypostases of the complex: Providence warehouses, the General Staff Garage and the Museum of Moscow.
The Ensemble of Provision Warehouses on Zubovsky Boulevard was built in 1835 for the needs of the military department. For a century, warehouses were used for their intended purpose - for storing food. In the Soviet period, the General Staff garages were located here, and in 2007 the Provisions were transferred to the Moscow Museum.
“Three stories of Providence” are three chronological blocks in which history itself unfolds in depth: from the present to the past. The artistic solution of the exposition will allow you to move both in space and in time: the exhibition hall will be divided into zones interconnected by aisles. Visually, all zones will be united by narrow openings in the partitions through which fragments of another time period will fall into the field of vision, and thus the visitor will be able to “look into the past” and see his echoes.
First, the visitor to the exhibition will fall into the area dedicated to the modern history of Proviant: from 2007 to the present, when the complex buildings were transferred to the Museum of Moscow. The present and future of the museum will be presented in the form of photographs and video materials telling about bright exhibition projects and city activities.
The second zone will be devoted to the Soviet period, when the General Staff garages were located on the territory of the Provision warehouses. In addition to rare photographs and videos, visitors will see the cars themselves, which were once housed in Proviant’s buildings. Among the unique exhibits is the legendary armored VMS: Stalin rode such a model. The most popular cars of the Soviet period will also be presented.
In the third zone, visitors will be offered documents, historical drawings and photographs from the collections of the Museum of Moscow, as well as artifacts found in the complex. You can see the cobblestone from the pavement and a fragment of the window binding, dated to the year the complex was built.
