The Russian Academy of Arts and the Lipetsk Regional Museum of Local Lore present an exhibition dedicated to the 70th anniversary of the formation of the Lipetsk region. The Angle of View project reflects a certain view of the history of Lipetsk art and explores the creator’s special worldview, which is transformed into a work of art. The exhibition will be based on about 100 paintings and sculptures by famous Lipetsk masters from the museum’s collections.
The founding of the Lipetsk region in 1954 and the opening of the regional branch of the Union of Artists of the USSR in 1957 contributed to the formation of the city’s picturesque environment and led to the active attraction of young authors. A big role in this was played by the students of the Yeletsk Art School - E. P. Salnikov, V. D. Dvoryanchikov, V. I. Korolev, A. M. Sorochkin, V. Ya. Sobolev, as well as one of the teachers V. S. Sorokin. It was in Lipetsk that the powerful talent of the brilliant graduate of the Moscow State Art Institute blossomed. V. I. Surikov, a student of I. E. Grabar, S. V. Gerasimov and A. A. Osmerkin, glorified both the painter and this region. Soon the group of artists became known at the all-Union level.
In the various shades of the diversity of Lipetsk art, it is possible to distinguish two leading lines. One of them is the tradition of lyrical landscape, focused on abstract, philosophical contemplation, unlimited in its pictorial incarnations. At the other pole are compositionally verified works with impeccably honed drawing skills, in which one can feel the breath and plasticity of monumental art. The most prominent artists in this direction would be Alexander Sorochkin and Vilen Dvoryanchikov, whose works are distinguished by a pronounced graphic component and a limited color range. Evgeniy Salnikov appears in his works as a confident master who has the experience of studying in the workshop of the famous monumentalist Alexander Deineka, and as a passionate creator capable of reflecting a vibrant world through the prism of an original artistic vision.
Among the themes characteristic of Lipetsk painters, the motifs of free space are more noticeable, gravitating either to coloristic searches in abstraction, or to the strict geometry of forms, expressed graphically. Landscapes by V. Ya. Sobolev, A. L. Zhdanov, V. P. Slushnik, D. A. Dikarev, E. N. Inozemtsev, A. A. Udodov, V. E. Vyaltsev, S. I were painted in these moods Potapov, A.P. Lelikov, V.I. Korolev, L.V. Skargina, and also V.R. Mikityuk.
In the narrow genre of portraiture, one feels more of an intuitive peering into contemporaries, often using the same techniques of a wide-ranging environment, which the person being portrayed borrows, as it were, to express his own character. As an example of this special approach to portraits, one can cite, first of all, the work of E. P. Salnikov “V. S. Sorokin in the Garden" 1987, as well as "Girl in a Fur Coat" by N. I. Klimov and female images by N. F. Uglov.
The genre of still life is also widespread, predominant in the work of some authors, for example, Victor Pichugin, who builds allegorical figurative moves in the intimacy of interior items, turning each small canvas into a large scene. In the works of Alexander Sorochkin one can feel the influence of a harsh style - this is indicated, for example, by the style and compositional features of the painting “My Yard”. For Sergei Bugrovsky, represented in the exhibition by the painting “Ecological Still Life with Sunset and Bottles,” this genre opened up a field for experiments in the field of metaphysics. In the optics of one of the most revered masters of Lipetsk painting, V. S. Sorokin, a still life turns into a coloristic canvas, in which the most important thing is an intensely charged spot of color and a play with distant plans, which was especially evident in the work “Winter Window”.
Capital spectators will see easel sculptures in the academic halls: portraits of contemporaries, works on biblical subjects and works representing objects of unknown civilizations. The figure of Yuri Grishko, a master of chamber sculpture, whose artistic style is distinguished by deep psychologism and refined sculpting of form, stands apart.
The works of the artists of the “Angle of View” project presented in the exhibition reflect the versatility of individualities brought together. The exhibition invites everyone who cares to appreciate not only the uniqueness and originality of Lipetsk art, but also to trace the traditions and trends of its development.
