The Russian State Library for Youth presents the first solo exhibition of Stepan Chubaev. Photographs of the author from 2015 to the present will be exhibited in the Small Hall.

Despite the frequent change of genres - nature, portraits, still lifes - in all the photographs of Stepan Chubaev, a unique author’s vision can be traced. Thus, the craving for a combination of red and white connects both pictures of nature and abstractions.

A distinctive feature of Chubaev’s style is the preservation of the riddle: the faces of those portrayed are deliberately hidden, and the compositions are composed in such a way that at first glance their details are indistinguishable.

Using only color correction and cropping in a graphics editor, the author raises the complexity of creating works to a new level. The fire is recreated “live”, the installation is assembled piece by piece, and the mysterious color spots and highlights are the result of painstaking work with light and shadow.

At the same time, the semantic load of the works also increases. Having conceived a specific plot, the author implements it, skillfully operating with digital and analog technology, subtly understanding the peculiarities of perceiving perspective at different focal lengths and accurately feeling the color.

The photographs that have become part of the personal exhibition do not represent a single series, but are associated with each other associatively. Thus, images of the hands refer to the sensation of touch, flashes of color to oblivion or memory, and clear and pronounced details to the documentary side of the nature of photography.

STEPAN CHUBAEV. Born in 1999 in St. Petersburg. He studied at an art school, in 2015 he entered the Faculty of Photojournalists named after. Yu. A. Galperin. In 2017 he was invited by Vogue Italia for a portfolio review in Milan. In 2018 he worked as a jury member of the FIBA ​​photography competition in Geneva. In 2019 he entered the "Top 100 Young Russian Artists" according to InArt.

The works of Stepan Chubaev were exhibited in London, Amsterdam, Geneva, Seoul, traded at the Dorotheum auctions in Vienna and Bruun Rasmussen in Copenhagen, were included in the collection of Tertius and the collection of the State Russian Museum.

The personal exhibition of Stepan Chubaev will be held for the first time in Moscow, in the Russian State Library for Youth.

But how does color affect our inner state? How do artists and photographers convey certain emotions in their works with the help of color?

At the lecture, we will understand the perception of color from the point of view of physiology and psychology.

We will learn how color began to appear in photography, how the masters of the West and East work with it, and get inspired by the best examples of photographs by representatives of the art of modern color photography.
