Solyanka Gallery presents the project “SeedShaker: waiting for a favorable environment and the right time” - a spatial sound installation of sound artist Sergei Filatov.
The seeds of various plant cultures are placed in spherical transparent cases. Spherical objects with seeds begin to oscillate under the influence of vibration created by built-in eccentric motors. The vibration frequency is determined by the controller. The sound of each ball is separated by timbre and volume due to different filling: sunflower grains, coffee, beans, nuts, etc.
The sound sculpture of SeedShaker forms a varying percussion canvas in space, the transformations of which visitors can observe while moving relative to sound sources. A feature of the work is a deliberate appeal to the principle of continuous variability, characteristic of natural phenomena. The sound installation is designed to reveal the acoustic properties of materials and reorganize sound in space. The visitor is invited to join the process of developing attention at a more detailed level. Sergey Filatov: “In my approach, I focus on acoustic awareness, I invite you to the field of contemplation of a single sound or sound landscape.”
Sound vibrations - the first sign of the awakening of activity in the source. The installation contains growth energy during the period of potential. Every grain, every idea, every personality strives to fulfill its mission. SeedShaker embodies the stage of development, when the power not yet shown is preparing for its disclosure, concentrating in itself the totality of all available opportunities.

One of the fundamental principles of Sergey Filatov’s work is attention to the sound itself, emphasis on its self-worth and self-sufficiency. The artist lives with a subtle sense of sound surrounding him: he feels how various forms of the material world interact with each other, giving rise to sound. Sergey Filatov comprehends much on his creative path empirically, following nature and its laws, considering himself as an integral part of the universe, and the world as a single organism. It is no coincidence that in a number of works the design of sound sculptures develops into the building of sound architecture (spatial sound installations). As a composer, Sergey Filatov varies and sets the transformation of the sound canvas, relying on the natural principles of sound textures: spontaneity and unpredictability are the cornerstone.
