June 7 at 16.00 in the Kaluga Museum of Fine Arts (Lenin St., 104, Exhibition Hall) will be the grand opening of the historical and art exhibition "Way to 100 years", dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the Kaluga Museum of Fine Arts. To this significant date, the museum presents an exhibition project - the historical and art exhibition "The Way to 100 Years", in which the Kaluga United Museum-Reserve and the State Archives of the Kaluga Region also took part.
The museum arose on the basis of the collection of the Kaluga collector and philanthropist Nikanor Ivanovich Vasiliev (1832 - 1917), who bequeathed his collection of works of art, his house and capital to a bank to create an art-industrial school and museum in Kaluga. After the events of October 1917, the philanthropic project of N. I. Vasiliev could not be realized in the form he had planned. His collection and house became the basis of the meeting for the creation of an art museum in the city, which is now known as the Kaluga Museum of Fine Arts.
A unique exhibit will be presented at the exhibition - a genuine testament of N. I. Vasiliev, which became the basis for the creation of an art museum in Kaluga. For the first time in a hundred years, it will leave the depository of the State Archives of the Kaluga Region.
On June 12, 1918, the Kaluga Pravda newspaper published an announcement about the opening of the Soviet Art Gallery in Kaluga. On this day, the museum opened its doors to visitors, and therefore June 12 is considered the foundation day of the museum.
Over the 100 years of its existence, the museum has gone from the Soviet Art Gallery to the Kaluga Museum of Fine Arts. He shared her fate with the country, suffered the hardships of the Nazi occupation of Kaluga in October - December 1941, having lost part of his assembly, was recovering from the war. For the first time, visitors will be shown reproductions of works that were lost during the Great Patriotic War. They are reproduced on the basis of the negatives preserved in the museum on glass.
The exposition for the first time includes genuine historical documents and photographs from the scientific archive of the museum and the funds of the Kaluga United Museum - Reserve and the State Archives of the Kaluga Region, which represent the history of the museum over a century.
The Kaluga Museum of Fine Arts has repeatedly changed its status and name, but all this time it collected, stored, restored, studied and popularized fine art.
Since its inception, the museum has become the center of the cultural life of the city, conducted research, scientific and educational, restoration, exhibition work. All these activities are reflected in the documents, photographs, museum publications and works of art presented in the exposition. The set of exhibits shown at the exhibition reflects the main stages of history and the work of the Pushkin Museum for a century.
The exhibition runs until July 8, 2018.
The museum is open from 10.00 to 18.00, on Saturday from 11.00 to 19.00. Monday is the day off.
