The majestic 6-meter sculpture, made in bronze, will be installed on Yunnatov Street in the Savelovsky district of Moscow.
In 2022, our country will celebrate the 350th anniversary of the birth of the first Emperor - Peter I, the reformer and enlightener who radically changed the face of the state. In accordance with the Decree of the President of the Russian Federation V.V. Putin, this date will be marked by a number of festive events. Selflessly devoted to Russia, Peter the Great still remains for posterity a vivid example of service to his Fatherland.
The presentation was attended by the author of the sculpture, President of the Russian Academy of Arts, full holder of the Order for Merit to the Fatherland, laureate of the Picasso Prize, UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador Zurab Tsereteli; Vice-President of the Russian Academy of Arts, People’s Architect of the Russian Federation, President of the Union of Architects of Russia and the Union of Moscow Architects Nikolai Shumakov; the editor-in-chief of the Moscow Heritage magazine, deputy chairman of the commission on culture and cultural-historical heritage of the Public Chamber of the city of Moscow, Philip Smirnov; General Director of RG-Development Tatyana Tikhonova. The image of the king-reformer is embodied in numerous works of art, literature, and cinema. Monuments to the Russian emperor are erected in many Russian cities and abroad. The President of the Russian Academy of Arts Z. K. Tsereteli created magnificent monumental sculptural compositions: “300 years of the Russian fleet” in Moscow, a monument to Peter I in St. Petersburg.
“Radically changing the face of the state, selflessly devoted to Russia, Peter the Great still remains for posterity a vivid example of serving the Fatherland. It is a great honor and creative joy for me to turn again to the image of Peter the Great. His bright, complex personality inspires each of the artists, indicates the path of search and experiment. I believe that this monument will become another chapter in the history of perpetuating the memory of the emperor and his glorious deeds, ”said the author of the work Zurab Tsereteli.
“We are all lucky that we live in the era of Zurab Konstantinovich, because it is, undoubtedly, a man of the Renaissance plan. Remember Michelangelo, Leonardo da Vinci, Donatello - Tsereteli can be safely put on a par with these great creators. One thing can be said about the Petrovsky Park project: the quality of life increases and goes into a slightly different category - everything suggests that the quarter will become a comfortable place to live. And the sculpture of Zurab Tsereteli, which will be located in the center of the complex, will competently support its structure. Let’s hope that someday all the works of Zurab Konstantinovich, including the famous Yabloko, will finally “roll out” of his workshop into the city, and not only we Muscovites will be glad that there are such great masters, but also guests of the capital in they’ll be convinced of this, ”commented on this event Nikolai Shumakov, People’s Architect of the Russian Federation, President of the Union of Architects of Russia and the Union of Moscow Architects.
“The sculpture will be installed in the summer, most likely in July, as part of the project of improvement of the complex. He will become our first "tenant", who will be the symbol and guardian of the complex. The historical environment of the Petrovsky Park residential complex is reflected in the coloristic solutions of the facades and the design of the entrance groups of this residential complex. On the landscaped courtyard territory, the atmosphere of the gardens of Peter the Great will be recreated and a sculptural composition dedicated to Peter I by Zurab Tsereteli will be placed. We are proud that he entrusted us with his creation and this work of art, ”commented Tatyana Tikhonova, general director of RG-Development.
