Zandan Dashi-Nimaevich Dugarov is the son of Dasha-Nima Dugarov, People’s Artist of the USSR, corresponding member of the Russian Academy of Arts, who was at the origins of the formation of the All-Buryat Association for the Development of Culture. Zandan followed in his father’s footsteps, becoming a sculptor. In 1990, he graduated with honors from the Art and Industrial College named after V. I. Mukhina, department of monumental sculpture. Since 1991, he began work with his father’s students on the restoration of the Tsugolsky datsan, and since 1996, the Aginsky datsan.
Zandan Dugarov performed his first works in marble and granite. In 1998, the Tretyakov Gallery acquired its marble sculpture The Sleeping Warrior. Now his works are also in the collections of the National Museum of the Republic of Buryatia, the Irkutsk Regional Art Museum, and the Omsk Museum of Fine Arts. Note that several large sculptures are installed in Ulan-Ude, Novosibirsk, Trans-Baikal Territory. Residents of the Irkutsk region and guests of Lake Baikal are familiar with the “Tramp” in the Olkhonsky district, one of the authors of which is Zandan Dugarov.
Ekhirit, Bulagat, Motley Burbot. Bronze, stone, gems. 2011.
In recent years, the artist embodies in his sculptures the images of Buryat folklore and legends. The central place at the exhibition is occupied by works based on legends telling about the first ancestors of the Buryat people. Cast in bronze, they make an incredibly monumental impression and are associated with plastic from the Paleolithic era. Dugarov’s work is distinguished by a combination of traditional oriental culture and contemporary art.
The exhibition will be housed in the Gallery of Sculpture of the Irkutsk Art Museum. The opening will take place on December 6 at 15.00 at the address: Irkutsk, st. Sverdlov, 16. Beginning at 15.00. Entrance to the opening is free. The exhibition will run until January 22, 2017.
