On April 23, the Nikolskaya Gallery opens a personal exhibition by Evgenia Polyudova "The Ark" in the POP UP MUSEUM space at the NEO GEO business center.
The project introduces the viewer to a series of paintings created during the life of the artist on Paramushir Island in the Great Kuril Ridge, Kamchatka, Russian Federation. For several years, the author painted landscapes on an open air among high hills and rocky shores. Many works were written under the eruptions of the Ebeko volcano, which occur on the island regularly. To give the canvases an artifact, Evgenia used volcanic ash when mixing paints.
The name of the project is inspired by the images of the ships, which Evgenia respectfully calls the workers of the island life. Each ship depicted on the canvases of Evgenia Polyudova has its own character and history. The artist metaphorically represents the ocean under the keel of a ship as a life path of a person.
The storm can come at any moment. But the ship will forever remain an echo of the Ark. It contains the key to spiritual salvation from a difficult fate. Protecting from the elements and bad weather, he carries a person to quiet marinas and shores. There, where the radiant sun drowns icy hearts and instills peace and tranquility in the soul.
The opening of the exhibition will be accompanied by an author’s tour and a special performance. In order to acquaint the viewer more deeply with her work and the process of creating works, Evgenia Polyudova will paint a small picture right during the opening of the event.
