Artcultivator and Rublevo Cultural Center present the Outskirts exhibition.
The outskirts are not only a topographical concept, but rather a phenomenon that contains figurative signs of time and place. Performing the border function between the city center and the vast expanses spreading beyond the city limits, the outskirts combines the properties of these two elements. Conflict based on the relationship between nature and the urban environment manifests itself here most sharply. On the one hand - an urban landscape, and on the other, perhaps a field of blooming sunflowers, as in the work of Andrei Shatilov, or the almost alien world of industrial buildings of Yuri Tsarevsky.
Artistic refraction of reality creates a peculiar mosaic of visual images familiar to every resident of the metropolis. Objects characteristic of the outskirts begin to play the role of symbols. In the works of Mila Gavrilova, the “guardians” of the outskirts of the power transmission tower, wires and, of course, typical panel houses become symbolic symbols. Ordinary, lack of intrigue and eventfulness reinforce the effect of recognition. The daily routine of the plot takes on a dramatic sound in the intense color painting “The Ultimate”, with a deserted night bus stop.
The theme of the transport highway connecting the center with the outskirts is also present in the works of Inna Volvak. Railway depots, old technical buildings - multi-layered and outgoing texture of the time.
Deserted streets in the light of lanterns, rare lonely passers-by, a factory entrance at dawn, stalls with shawarma at the peripheral metro stations, permanent and temporary, eternal and mundane coexist in a series of night landscapes by Irina Bogdanova.
The figurative system in the work of Yelena Gagarina “The Threads of Fate” is due to the characteristic details of the depicted interior, the scenery outside the window and the mood of the invisibly present inhabitants of the house on the old outskirts of the city.
Anna Brilling and Ivan Dedok in their full-scale sketches capture the shabby old paintings that have lived their lives and are going back in time, which will soon be supplanted by the upcoming city building.
In the graphic series of Yuri Tsarevsky, images of completely real objects of industrial development are perceived as artifacts of other worlds, as a phantasmagoria born of the imagination of a surrealist.
The exhibition will feature more than 30 paintings and graphic works.
Participants: Irina Bogdanova, Anna Brilling, Inna Volvak, Ivan Dedok, Mila Gavrilova, Elena Gagarina, Yuri Tsarevsky, Andrey Shatilov
