May 19, 2018 in the State Museum of Fine Arts named after A.S. Pushkin will host the annual event "Night of Museums". The museum will open the doors to its storerooms: employees will talk about unique items not shown on display. Visitors will be able to see the masterpiece of medieval Indian plastic “God Vishnu with the coming”, the painting “Flight to Egypt” by Bartolome Esteban Murillo, as well as the engraving by Katsushiki Hokusai from the series “36 Views of Mount Fuji”. Special tours of the main exhibition will be held by members of the Club of Young Art Critics (KUI).
As part of the program of events:
18: 00–22: 00 - members of the Club of Young Art Critics will conduct tours of the permanent exhibition of the Main Building.
19: 00–21: 15 - museum researchers will give lectures on objects from the storerooms (Greek courtyard of the Main building).
Lecture Program:
19: 00–19: 45 - lecture on the sculpture group “God Vishnu with the Oncoming” (IX – XI centuries) received by the museum as a gift from Indira Gandhi. The lecture will be delivered by Kira Vyazovikina, Senior Researcher, Department of the Ancient East, Pushkin Museum. A.S. Pushkin. Students will learn about the formation of a collection of Indian art in the Pushkin Museum, get acquainted with the specifics of Hindu plastic iconography and its artistic features.
19: 45–20: 30 - lecture on the painting “Flight to Egypt” by Bartolome Esteban Murillo. Lecturer Svetlana Zagorskaya, deputy head of the department of art of old masters. In his work, Murillo repeatedly turned to this story, however, in comparison with the artist’s early works, not without baroque pathos, in “Flight to Egypt” from the collection of the Pushkin Museum to them. A.S. Pushkin unusually accurately conveyed the intimate atmosphere of family communication. The painting was originally in the collection of Lord Robert Walpole, the first Prime Minister of England.
20: 30–21: 15 - a lecture on the technique of Japanese wood engraving and one of the most famous engravings by Katsushiki Hokusai (1760–1849) “The Victorious Wind. Clear Day ”, or“ Red Fuji ”from the series“ 36 Views of Mount Fuji ”. He gives a lecture by Ainur Yusupov, a leading researcher in the graphics department of the Pushkin Museum. A.S. Pushkin.
Entrance to the Main Building will be free of charge from 18:00 to 22:00. The exception will be the exhibition “The Age of Rembrandt and Vermeer. Masterpieces of the Leiden Collection ”: inspection of the exhibition will be open until 23:00 on paid tickets.
To attend lectures as part of the Night of Museums, pre-registration is required.
The art gallery of the countries of Europe and America of the 19th – 20th centuries will work as usual for paid tickets until 20:00.
From 20:00 to 22:00, entrance to paid tickets will be carried out only at the exhibition “Sculptors and livre d’artiste”.
The main exhibition (halls of the 2nd and 3rd floors) will be closed after 20:00.
