Studio “Little Art History” has been working for the fourth year. Students of the project are young Petersburgers aged 5 to 12 years. The studio is engaged in a program developed by the founder and head of the studio, artist and teacher Maya Khlobystina. The program and methodology are based on the study of the classical history of art by children through the creation of their own works, relying on masterpieces - iconic works that went down in the history of art. Peering into them, analyzing, the guys create their own work, study various visual techniques, learn the basics of artistic composition, remember the subject, expand not only intelligence, but also the look at the world order as a whole. From year to year, the exhibitions of the project “Little Art History” gather the audience and receive a large number of enthusiastic reviews, which inspires the authors to new work.

In May 2016, the studio completed its first season with a large-scale exhibition in the Borey gallery. The exposition includes more than 70 works. And that was the Little History of European Art.

In the 2016-2017 season, students studied and drew the history of Russian fine art. This season also ended with a large and successful exhibition in Korea.

In the 2017-2018 season, the studio was engaged in the history of the Russian avant-garde, and this time the exhibition was held in the specialized museum - the Museum of St. Petersburg Avant-Garde, Matyushin’s House.

In the season 2018-2019, the topic of classes in the studio of Maya Khlobystina was called: The Golden Age. The painting of Holland and Spain of the 17th century is traditionally referred to this period of art history. The Hermitage collection is rich in works of this period and young authors have consistently studied the stages of development, plots, style and manner of the great masters of the 17th century. Rembrandt, whose collection of works in the Hermitage is one of the best in the world, Hals, Ostad, Terboch, Peter de Hoch, Little Dutch, Spaniards Velazquez and Murillo.

At the exhibition in the gallery of Borey will be presented about 80 works by young authors, created based on the works of these great artists in various techniques: painting, graphics, collage, mixed media.
