"Forest - tree - genus" is a new exhibition in the Perm Gallery, dedicated to folk art and its deep aspects, inherent in the very title of the exhibition.
FOREST is the environment predetermined by the nature of the Kama region, in which man existed. In ancient times, it was an area completely covered with forest. The forest provided not only physical protection - home, clothing, food, but also spiritual protection. Therefore, man endowed him with tremendous magical power: the main meanings of life, mythology, religion were directly reflected in oral folk art, in craft and in the very way of life of the people. And one of the first images that arose in folk art was the image of a tree. The TREE embodies a poetic attitude to the world, an idea about it and about a person. The family tree was associated with the "family tree", the roots of which - the spirits of deceased ancestors - go deep into the past and keep the memory of everything that happened in this family, and the crown and branches are young shoots, descendants, those who multiply and develop the family tree… The more branchesthe richer and stronger the roots, the stronger the clan and the more help the descendants receive. The roots of different trees, different ancestral trees, intertwine with each other, forming a forest - a whole people.
Folk art is initially associated with a person’s labor activity, his present and past. Showing the world of folk culture, folk ideas about the world, values, beauty, we want a modern person to receive new knowledge and impressions that would give him an impetus for his own creativity.
The exhibition not only actualizes the collection of folk art of the Perm Gallery, but also answers the question of why this type of art is so in demand today - harmony, a sense of beauty, the desire to create a space of joy around itself. It is not without reason that modern architects and artists turn to folk art, which is often a source of inspiration and knowledge for them.
The main part of the large collection of folk art, including items from the late 19th - third quarter of the 20th centuries, rarely comes out of the storerooms of the Perm Gallery. And this exhibition is an opportunity to show viewers about 200 items from the gallery’s funds. The exposition will include works of folk art, individual exhibits of Perm wooden sculpture and icons, utilitarian objects and tools.
Painting and woodcarving will be presented through peasant interior items, woodworking tools, spinning wheels, fences, lights, wicker bowls, birch bark tues, Ural spinning wheels, peasant cabinets and other exhibits. Works from fabric - embroidered towels, tablecloths, rugs, Permian Komi and Mari costumes. Special attention will be paid to the symbolism of folk ornaments, which contain all the ideas of the peoples of the Kama region about life.
