On May 23 at 16.00 in the Gallery of Siberian Art (Karl Marx St., 23) the opening of an exhibition dedicated to the 105th anniversary of the birth of the famous Irkutsk art critic, teacher, participant in the Great Patriotic War Vladimir Falinsky will take place. The anniversary event was organized jointly with the State Archive of the Irkutsk Region. The exhibition features about 50 works of art and documents from Falinsky’s personal collection.
Vladimir Vikentievich collected unique material about Siberian artists in various museums and archives. He prepared, but, unfortunately, for unknown reasons, did not defend his Ph.D. thesis on the topic “Fine Arts of Eastern Siberia.” The art historian’s personal archive is based on a collection of original documents from the Irkutsk branch of the Union of Artists of the USSR. It also includes memoirs of Irkutsk artists, photocopies of their paintings, clippings from central and Irkutsk newspapers, exhibition catalogs, reviews and reviews of art exhibitions, rare photographs.
For most of his life, Vladimir Vikentievich was actively involved in diverse activities, but all of them were connected with the promotion of both artistic creativity in general and the activities of Irkutsk artists.
In the exhibition you can see printed and original graphics by metropolitan and Siberian artists: People’s Artist of Russia Oleg Ardimasov, Honored Artist of Russia Vladimir Rogachev, Honored Artist of Russia Nikolai Domashenko, as well as famous Irkutsk artists: Lev Gimov, Georgy Levi, Galina Novikova, Andrey Rubtsov and others.
