July 7 at 15.00 in the Kaluga Museum of Fine Arts (Lenin St., 103, second floor) will open the exhibition "Kaluga is under construction: New buildings in Kaluga through the eyes of artists." To the day of the formation of the Kaluga region.
The construction of new residential areas, the erection of public buildings, the improvement of streets and squares did not pass by the attention of Kaluga artists.
The most striking example of modern architecture was the building of the State Museum of the History of Cosmonautics. K. E. Tsiolkovsky. The unique museum was built from 1963 to 1967. The authors of the project were a group of Moscow and Kaluga architects: B. Barkhin, V. Strogiy, N Orlova, K. Fomin and E. Kireev. In 1968, at the All-Union architectural competition, the Kaluga project was awarded the State Prize of the RSFSR in the field of architecture.
In 1961, the improvement of the Peace Square began with the installation of a monument to K. E. Tsiolkovsky. In 1965, the opening of the modern, fortified western, northern and southern stands of the Lokomotiv stadium took place.
In the 1970s, striving to create a new architecture in tune with the times, architects begin to abandon the Soviet functionalism and constructivism of the 1960s. Along with the solution of functional and technical and economic problems, the architects tried to solve the problems of urban improvement in a complex. For many years, concrete was the main building material, until glass and titanium began to compete with it in the 1970s. In 1972, the building of the House of Life with a metal cladding of the facade was opened, which was built by the Kaluga house-building plant.
In the 1980s, much attention was still paid to the issues of complex development of the city. The construction of a microdistrict on the right bank of the Oka began.
All these objects are captured in the works presented at the exhibition. The works of artists reflected the love for their native city. They preserved on their canvases the moments of the construction of public buildings and structures important for the inhabitants of the city and the region, the creation of new residential areas.
The exhibition will run until August 7th.
