In December 2015, the IX annual independent Russian Prize in the field of contemporary art - the Kandinsky Prize will be awarded.

A distinctive feature of the Prize is the possibility of self-nomination.
This year, the Prize’s regulation has undergone several important changes.
From this year in the nomination “Scientific work. History and Theory of Contemporary Art ”can be attended not only by citizens of the Russian Federation, but also participants from other countries. Accepted work, both in Russian and in foreign languages. A prerequisite remains unchanged - the subject of research should be Russian contemporary art.
This innovation is due to the need to support the scientific process in the field of Russian contemporary art, to draw attention to it not only domestic but also the international academic environment.
The composition of the expert council and the jury in this nomination remained the same.
The changes affected the main composition of the jury and expert council in the nominations “Project of the Year” and “Young Artist”. According to the rules of the Periodic Rotation Award in the 2015 competition year, Zelfira Tregulova, general director of the State Tretyakov Gallery, Russian art critic, curator of museum exhibition projects, entered the jury.
The expert council included:

In 2015, an additional round appeared in the procedure of the 1st stage of voting. Now, the members of the expert council will vote in two stages: the first round - an anonymous yes / no, the second - with the names of the authors and a rating system from 0 to 10. Such a mechanism will allow for a more thorough selection of nominees for the long list. The appearance of an additional stage of voting will also reduce the possibility of missing important names and projects from the general list of contestants.
The exhibition of nominees for the Prize in its usual format will be replaced by a show of the works of the finalists, which will open a few days before the Award Ceremony.
The traditional paper catalog of the Prize will replace the electronic format of the catalog, which will include an expanded list of projects and nominees. It will be available on the Foundation website.
A collection of essays by the winner of last year - Mikhail Yampolsky, "Picturesque Gnosis" (dedicated to the work of the artist Grisha Bruskin), is being prepared for publication in August 2015.
This year the Kandinsky Prize will be awarded for the 9th time. The award was created in 2007 on the initiative of the president of the BREUS Foundation (formerly “Art Chronicle”) Shalva Breus. Kandinsky Prize is an independent Russian Prize in the field of contemporary art. One of the distinguishing features of the Prize is the possibility of self-nomination of nominees. Along with members of the jury and expert council, museums, galleries and other institutions, the artist himself can apply for participation in the Prize. Such an opportunity makes the application process as democratic as possible.
At all stages of the competition, artists are selected by an international jury and an expert council. They include the most authoritative representatives of different poles of the expert art community. The Board of Trustees does not vote.
The Kandinsky Prize is named after an outstanding Russian artist, one of the founders of abstract art, Vasily Kandinsky. She reveals new art trends, opens up new names and supports the projects of already famous artists. The Kandinsky Prize is conceived as a year-round process. Its stages are: three rounds of selection of nominees, an exhibition of works by finalists, an award ceremony.
