February 21, 2019 at the National Art Gallery "Hazine" of the State Museum of Fine Arts of the Republic of Tatarstan (Kremlin, Sheinkman passage 12, entrance 3), the exhibition of paintings and graphics from the museum collection "Ivan Shishkin and his artistic circle" will open.
The creative heritage of Ivan Ivanovich Shishkin in the State Museum of Fine Arts of the Republic of Tatarstan is undoubtedly one of the museum’s visiting cards, the pearl of the entire museum collection. After the State Tretyakov Gallery and the State Russian Museum, this is the third most important collection of works by the master in the country. It allows you to fairly fully trace the creative formation of the artist, since it includes both early student works of the 1850-60s and works of a mature period, up to the last year of Shishkin’s life.
The opening exhibition at the Khazine National Art Gallery of the Pushkin Museum of the Republic of Tatarstan presents the exhibition of the well-known and beloved Kazan’s works by I. I. Shishkin “Mowing in an Oak Grove”, “Swiss Landscape”, “Polyanka”, “At the Country House”, etc. Each of the artist’s paintings has its own story, sometimes dramatic. "At the cottage" was written by the artist in 1894 and, together with "Glade" (1897), was exhibited at the Second Exhibition of Paintings at the Kazan Art School in 1898. A few hours before his death, Ivan Ivanovich telegraphed to the city about his consent to transmit these works to the Kazan Museum.
The extensive collection of the State Museum of Fine Arts of the Republic of Tatarstan contains many rare and unknown to the general public works of Ivan Ivanovich Shishkin’s graphics. These are works of the artist’s early period: watercolor and pencil drawings, etchings on paper and silk, engravings with dedicatory inscriptions of the author. In the 70-80s of the XIX century, Ivan Ivanovich Shishkin gained a reputation as the largest Russian engraver of his time. Not a single Russian painter has left such an extensive engraving heritage, not one has achieved such perfection in the possession of etching techniques. The richness of the collection allows the museum to acquaint the viewer with the various facets of the master’s work, presenting him both as a virtuoso draftsman in the open air and as an experimental creator in his etching workshop. The exhibition opening in Hazine provides a rare opportunity to get acquainted with this least known facet of the master’s work.
The exposition of paintings and graphics by I. I. Shishkin is supplemented by the works of his friends and students: V. M. Rezanov, L. L. Kamenev, A. A. Borisov and others. At the exhibition, one will rarely see the work of the master of landscape landscapes F. A Vasiliev, “Cheboksary” and “Skeet at Night,” by landscape painter, marine painter, and Fleet Major General P. N. Wagner, for the first time “By the Ditch (Spring)” by I. I. Brovar.
The exhibition runs until the end of June 2019.
