In the halls of the MVK RAX Gallery of Art of Zurab Tsereteli (Prechistenka, 19), an exhibition of the works of one of the contemporary masters of the Russian avant-garde Igor Snegur "Endless Journey" will be held.
The exhibition presents more than 120 works created over the half-century creative life of the artist: from early paintings that were influenced by the ideas of expressionism, to works of recent years that reflect the latest ideas of the author.
According to researchers of the artist’s creativity, the internal concept of Igor Snegur’s works is based on a synthesis of the mystical ideas of Russian symbolism and the plastic solutions of Kazimir Malevich’s Suprematism. In different years, critics attributed Snegur to the second wave of the Russian avant-garde, but the artist’s work does not fit into the framework of one direction or style.
Regardless of the time of creation and the formal framework, Igor Snegur’s paintings in any period of his work retain amazing accuracy of lines, soft colors, and depth of idea. All his works reflect a special philosophical concept: a carefully thought-out combination of the simplest geometric forms symbolically embodies the artist’s views on the reflection of time and space in art. I. Snegur manages to graphically outline the process of formation and development of a straight line, this visual infinity. Beyond the ordinary, famous, she is born on Snegur’s canvas. This is a master whose deep speculation leads him and forces him to pay all attention to absolute truths, so that later he can be presented to the audience through his new visual search.
The artist himself says so about his work: “The truth is not in the picture, but in what it relates to: as if a trace of some truth. Truth is the essence that shines in the picture: the special truth that the artist is trying to decorate with the language of painting: through colors and forms. Painting is the same language as all others - music, literature, dance. But she has her own laws: only visual perception, bypassing smells, sounds, especially movement. Painting is a static, captured moment. ”
Igor Grigorievich Snegur was born in 1935 in Moscow. By the age of sixteen, he decided on a future profession, and seriously took up painting. He has been actively involved in the art process since the late 1950s - he participated in the famous exhibition of the 30th anniversary of MOSH in “MANEZH” in 1962, defeated by N. Khrushchev, in exhibitions of abstract artists of the Moscow studio Eli Belyutin. At the same time he studied at the Faculty of Graphics of the Moscow Polygraphic Institute in 1960-1964. In 1975, Snegur’s works were presented at the famous avant-garde vernissage in the Beekeeping pavilion at VDNKh, and in the late 70s Igor Snegur organized the famous art group 20 Moscow Artists, whose annual exhibitions were held at Malaya Gruzinskaya in 1978-1988.
Snegur’s creative activity from the very beginning was multifaceted: the artist worked in films and in the theater, was engaged in book graphics and a poster. In 1988, I. Snegur opened the first private gallery “Mars” in Moscow, in 1993 published the magazine-catalog “Art Panorama”, and in 2009 the book “Transits. Diagonals. "
I. Snegur held more than 30 solo exhibitions and participated in more than 50 group exhibitions in Russia and abroad.
The works are in the collections of the State Tretyakov Gallery, the State Russian Museum, Moscow Museum of Modern Art; in art museums in Khabarovsk, Kostroma, Orel, Vladivostok, Yaroslavl and in numerous private collections abroad.
The exhibition, presented in the halls of the MVK RAX, demonstrates the evolution of creative ideas and the formation of the artist’s own style.
