On August 11, 2022, the Zifergauz Digital Art Gallery on New Holland Island opened an exhibition of media artist Ozan Turkkan "Fractals".
This is the first personal exhibition of the Turkish artist in Russia - the result of his many years of research into fractal geometry, the interpretation of the aesthetics and beauty of algorithms. In simple words, a fractal is a figure that repeats the same pattern over and over again. We encounter these patterns every day: our world exhibits exceptional mathematical order.
To create the illusion of complete immersion in the atmosphere of his artistic vision, Ozan Turkkan himself composes soundtracks - especially for Zifergauz, he created a sound sequence inspired by the works of Shostakovich, in which he encoded fractal images so that they follow the rhythm of the music.
The artist also saw the elegance of geometric regularity in the architecture of our city - the new work BRIDGES was created on the basis of drawings of St. Petersburg bridges from the archives of Mostotrest and the Presidential Library. B. N. Yeltsin.
The exhibition will run until September 30, 2022, admission is free.
Ozan Turkkan:
“The geometry of everything is my obsession, everything revolves around it. I believe that everything in nature consists of patterns and order, and it is a closed system where everything is constantly mutating into each other. Coding and big data fascinate me just as much as mathematics. There is something alive, flowing, and I find it very real. I use data as a visual tool to create poetry.”
