No phrases about valor and courage.
Words are just words.
We stood here. And not a step back.
We are here. But Moscow is worth it.
Vladimir Karpenko
Farther and farther goes into a past event, which has no equal in value and scale. We are talking about that difficult time for our people, when it seemed that the outcome of the Great Patriotic War was predetermined and the fall of Moscow is a matter of the coming days.
The battle of Moscow is a vivid example of military strategy and valor, turning the tide of the war at first in defensive battles, and culminating in the defeat of the enemy in a counterattack that began on December 5, 1941 and went on the offensive of Soviet troops.
The enemy had a numerical advantage in artillery, tanks and soldiers. But in spite of everything, they were able to defend Moscow and drove the enemy away from the Kremlin walls for many kilometers. This was the first major defeat of the German army in World War II. The myth of her “invincibility” was destroyed. The victory in the Battle of Moscow inspired the Soviet people and the Red Army soldiers to new heroic deeds. This date is especially carefully preserved in memory of veterans who returned from the heat of war alive.
Both regular units and volunteers who joined the militia took part in the battle. Hundreds of thousands of Muscovites worked on its approaches: they dug trenches and anti-tank ditches. Victory became possible thanks to the coordinated work of millions of Soviet people. For this universal feat of Moscow in 1965 was awarded the title "Hero City"!
Every year the events of those years are moving farther and farther away from us, the ranks of veterans are thinning, and less and less are the participants in those fierce battles. But we will always remember them. Their feat will forever remain in our hearts an example of the greatest courage, heroism and faith.
And we, the descendants, must carefully preserve the memory of our ancestors and our people. The revision and falsification of history cannot be allowed. Do not discredit the Feat. It is impossible for new generations to know anything about the Great Patriotic War or to know half the truth about it. It is impossible to allow striking through the heroic pages of our history, because while our common memory is alive, it is impossible to defeat us!
At the photo exhibition “Pages of memory” from the series “Remember”, its authors Evgeny Zhilyaev and Galina Kuznetsova offer you to stop and look at the faces of people in photographs. Difficulties and hardships, the death of loved ones and friends fell on their lot, but in spite of everything they retained the ability to rejoice and smile. And every day they show us the strength of their true "Russian character".
We wish you, dear veterans, good spirits, warmth, well-being, goodness and long life. Thank you for Moscow, thank you for the Victory.
