Musical performance-sketch based on the works of Pushkin and Tchaikovsky’s opera "The Queen of Spades" as part of the Tchaikovsky Music Festival dedicated to the 180th anniversary of his birth.
The genre of this production was defined by the creators as a musical sketch performance. This manifests itself in the design, costumes, musical adaptation of the musical material and in the images of the heroes created by the leading vocalists and actors of the Petersburg-Concert. The opera by PI Tchaikovsky "The Queen of Spades" and the work of the same name by Alexander Pushkin were taken as a basis. The performance is musical, and the directors tried to treat the opera score as carefully as possible, preserving the most popular and beloved arias, duets and choral fragments.
In addition to well-known operatic characters, the production has one more hero. This is the Citizen. Either he appears as a storyteller, leading the audience through the tragic events that he witnessed, then he himself is a participant in dramatic scenes: in the room with the Countess and Lisa is the butler, in the barracks with Herman - the batman, and in the gambling house he is Chekalinsky.
The creators of the play did not try to preserve the "historical truth" in design, costumes and details. Everything is presented as a sketch. However, in the acting performance, they achieved sincerity of feelings and acuteness of experiences. The performance turned out to be dynamic, captivating the audience from the first minutes. The combination of opera music, prose and poetic texts make the performance “democratic”, designed not only for opera lovers, but also for the widest audience.
