The author of the book on minstrels, a connoisseur of the musical Middle Ages and early Renaissance, Saponov deeply studied the origins of the artistic avant-garde, and made a lot of efforts so that new music, half banned in the USSR, would find its way to the listener. In particular, he took part in the first Russian performance of Schoenberg’s Ode to Napoleon back in the mid-1970s. in the party of the reader and continues to play in it until now. The performance of Francis Pulenok’s Sextet is a tribute to M. Saponov, who worked for a long time to study the heritage of Jean Cocteau and his role in the musical life of Paris in the 1920s, which resulted in the publication of the first commented edition of the book “The Rooster and Harlequin” in Russia.
