From July 19 to August 5, the State Museum of the East and the Khanhalaev Gallery present an exhibition of works by contemporary Buryat artist Bato Dugarzhapov - “The Plein Air”. A bright representative of the trend that domestic art critics call “Russian impressionism of the new century,” the painter not only continues the traditions of K. Korovin, V. Borisov-Musatov, the Blue Rose association, but also develops a new visual-plastic language.
Bato Dugarzhapov was born in 1966 in the small town of Duldurg of the Chita region of the Transbaikal Territory. He graduated from Moscow Secondary Art School (Moscow Art School named after Tomsky), then Surikov Institute. He began to exhibit while still studying at the Moscow State Art Institute: at the All-Union Youth Exhibition in 1990, in the halls of the Drouot auction house in Paris. He participated in the painting of the Cathedral of Christ the Savior and in the painting of the Temple of the Kazan Icon of the Mother of God at the Kazan station in Moscow. Now Dugarzhapov - a member of the Union of Artists of Russia and the Moscow Union of Artists - has many group and personal projects in different countries of the world: in Russia, China, the USA, Great Britain, Italy, Taiwan. His work was recognized and loved by the audience, and the artist himself received the title of “one of the most famous impressionists of our time”.
The works of Bato Dugarzhapov are multifaceted, they attract with their color and manner of writing. This is especially evident in landscapes that, under different lighting conditions, either explode the canvases with flashes of pictorial bacchanalia, or demonstrate absolute delicacy of color, immersing the viewer in contemplation of monochrome sophistication. The painter says that in the choice of the artistic direction he was influenced by “the reality that surrounds us: it is mainly in the style of impressionism… Sometimes I meet in nature inserts of abstract art, or harsh realism, or pure graphics. All the styles that exist are really present in the world around us, which is why they arise as the endless languages of extinct peoples. ”
Vague images and understatement give special charm to the master’s paintings, which at first glance attract your attention and transfer to the world of fantasies and dreams.
On the contemporary art scene, artists from Buryatia, whose work the Khanhalaev Gallery continues to acquaint the audience, are very noticeable: their styles are diverse. Someone plunges deeper into national traditions. Dugarzhapov occupies a special place in this series, creatively reworking and continuing in our time the principles of work of masters of the world and Russian landscape at the turn of the XIX-XX centuries.
The exhibition “Wind of the open air” in the State Museum of the East will allow art lovers to get acquainted with a special artistic style, feel the unique atmosphere, and also enjoy the crystal “sonorousness” of nature in the artist’s canvases.
