The festival "Multivision" continues the study of animation as a fine art. For the eighth year in the festival competition, there has been a nomination for “Best Video Installation”, created specifically for animated works that are closer to a “live” picture, sculpture or decoration, rather than to a movie. Finalists of the 2018 competition - 18 works by video artists from around the world presented at the exhibition in the Erarta Museum.
This year, the traditional exhibition of the festival takes on new, philosophical overtones, which the President of the festival, Svetlana Petrova, a philosopher by education, is incredibly happy about. You will find out everything that you have long wanted to know, but were afraid to ask philosophers.
How is transcendental different from transcendental? Does space and time exist in our mind a priori, along with the great German thinker Immanuel Kant, the video artists Tianzhan Duan (The Noumen’s Labyrinth, China) and Mirai Mizue (The Space of Dreams, Japan) believe, or can we comprehend them in our sensual experience, how do the characters of Fest Nikita Diakur (Germany) do, breaking their heads, and at the same time the structure of the polygonal mesh of space, in a deliberately ridiculous YouTube-like video?
What is the structure of heaven and hell? Where are the boundaries of the dream space? What is the architectonics of the past and the future? Are satellite photocards, CCTV cameras, distorted lenses of our lenses our new senses? How do the noumenon, the thing in itself and the phenomenon of a fat red cat, rolling endless circles on Olympic skates on social networks, compare? Here are just an incomplete range of questions for the modern Kantian. They will answer the stars of modern video art. In addition to those listed above, this is Boris Labbe (France) with his new work The Fall, Verzhin Keaton (France) with her long-awaited Tasmanian Tiger, brain-blowing Italian Donato Sansone (The Spot), restless experimenter Francois Vogel (France), a meditative Hans Op de Beck (Belgium) and others.
Of course, this time again could not do without the first contemporary artist of inhuman origin, the world celebrity of Zarathustra - a cat who has kindly provided all-round support to the festival in its most daring initiatives that exceed the boundaries of pure reason.
