On May 23, 2018, an exhibition dedicated to the 170th birthday of the talented Russian architect Maxim Karlovich Geppener opens at the Museum and Exhibition Complex of the Watercolor School of Sergei Andriyaka. It is this architect who is the author of the building project (The Shelter for Orphans of the Evangelical Guardianship of Poor Women and Children in Gorokhovskiy Lane), where Sergei Andriyaka’s Watercolor School is currently located.
A significant part of the exposition is dedicated to the creative heritage of the architect, whose name is closely related to the historical period of Moscow’s life in the last third of the 19th century - the beginning of the 20th century. The main field of activity of this architect was the construction of urban facilities, the architectural design of industrial buildings, the construction of public buildings - schools, gymnasiums, schools, shelters. The most large-scale urban development project of M.K. Geppener was his participation in the reconstruction and creation of the architectural complex of ground-based structures of the Moscow water supply system - Mytishchi and Moskvoretsky. And the most recognizable is the building of the fire tower in Sokolniki.
Visitors to the exhibition will be able to take a fascinating journey through time and get into the atmosphere of Moscow at the end of the 19th century thanks to graphic and pictorial works with views of temples, merchant mansions, ancient interiors, performed by students of the Watercolor School during open-air practices. The exposition is supplemented with old photographs and historical documents that were not previously presented to the general public.
The exhibition runs until July 01, 2018.
