December 9 at 16-00, in the exhibition hall of the Kaluga Museum of Fine Arts (Lenin, 104) opens the exhibition “Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec. "Paris, Paris…"
Exhibition of lithographs from private collections
Many considered him an overly public person. It was said that the life of this artist was motley, like the outfits of the Moulin Rouge cabaret dancers. But thanks to his world-famous works, Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec was and remains the brightest representative of the creative elite of Paris at the end of the 19th century. Toulouse-Lautrec never had any illusions about life, leaving it at the age of 37 years. But for a short period of his work, he left a gigantic contribution to the history of world art as a representative of the “post-impressionism” trend. His works are extremely frank, behind the ostentatious brilliance of bohemian life hid the true, not always attractive face of reality.
Our exhibition presents 52 lithographs demonstrating the essence of cabaret burlesque, in different variations. Posters of dancers and actresses, works from the famous "circus" series will allow you to feel the brightness of a luxurious and nonchalant era, called "La Belle Époque". Enjoy the exquisite French “dessert”, feel the heady joy, plunge headlong into the alluring realm of fun, dance and dizzying stunts!
The exposition space is divided into three main parts:
1. The youth of Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec (works: early portraits, animalistic theme in the work). Information stands: the story of the tragic childhood of Henry, his becoming as an artist, the formation of his own style.
2. The maturity of Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec (works: posters for the cabaret “Moulin Rouge”, “Moulin de la Galette”, “Sofa Japone” and others, the daily life of courtesans). Information stands with archival photographs and interesting historical facts about the life and work of the artist’s favorite characters (La Goulue, Jane Avril, Yvette Gilbert, Aristide Bruen, clowness Sha-Yu-Kao).
3. The late period of the work of Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec (works: circus sketches, theater posters 1989-1900).
Information stands: the history of the last years of the artist’s life, the results of his work.
The exhibition runs until January 29, 2017, at the address: st. Lenin, 104 (exhibition hall).
