One of the main musical events of summer 2022 will be the New Israeli Sound festival at the Jewish Museum and Tolerance Center. This year, for the first time, it will be held both on the entire territory adjacent to the Jewish Museum and inside the museum itself, and the program will be especially rich: the stars of the world’s best music festivals will come to Russia. The headliner will be the world famous musician Asaf Avidan with his characteristic vocals and recognizable style. Guests of New Israeli Sound will plunge into the unique atmosphere of Tel Aviv with its current music, shops representing local fashion brands, and a street food market of modern Israeli cuisine.
For the first time, the festival will last until late at night, and the musical program will be divided into two venues. Asaf Avidan, Riff Cohen, Yemen Blues and Electric Zoo will perform on the main stage on the street from 15:00 to 23:00. The second stage will be located inside the museum: from 19:30 to 02:30 there will be cult electronic music performed by Rejoicer with musicians, in particular from his label Raw Tapes, and bands Beatfoot and DORJ. Thanks to New Israeli Sound, the entire territory of the museum and exhibition complex of the Jewish Museum and Tolerance Center will turn into an interdisciplinary platform that will connect traditions and the latest trends in culture and music.
Asaf Avidan’s fantastic style of performance is compared to Billie Holiday and Janis Joplin at the same time, and Avidan himself says that Bob Dylan had a huge influence on his texts. The musician is popular in Europe and the USA, where he has earned a reputation as a man-orchestra and a musical intellectual. Another celebrity of the Tel Aviv scene - Riff Cohen - became famous in his hometown for tracks in French. Light and at the same time textured pop music is permeated with Middle Eastern motifs and African rhythms. The singer received a musical education, but says that she creates her music with both her mind and her heart. Her tracks have a clear musical structure and are saturated with charisma. Yemen Blues is a jazz folk band with fantastically expressive frontman Ravid Kahalani.
