"Spring" by Eduard Manet sold for $ 65 million Automatic translate
NEW YORK. Spring (La Primavera), a masterpiece written in 1881 by Edouard Manet, was sold last Tuesday for $ 65.13 million at Christie’s auction in New York, setting a new record for French Impressionist works.
The portrait depicts actress Jeanne Demarsy during a summer walk under an umbrella. Initially, the work was estimated at 25-30 million US dollars. The canvas has been the property of one family for over a century, and over the past 20 years has been exhibited on a rental basis at the National Gallery of Art in Washington. The portrait was part of a series of four paintings conceived by the artist, each of which represented one of the seasons of the year. However, Manet died, completing only “Spring” and “Autumn”.
So far, the maximum price paid for Manet’s work has been $ 33 million. That is how much the artist’s self-portrait sold in 2010 at Sotheby’s auction in London cost.
The second most expensive item at the auction was a painting by the French cubist Fernand Leger, which was sold for $ 17.53 million with an initial estimate of $ 16-22 million.

А ведь я хотел купить. Начал деньги собирать. И вот-прямо из под носа увели. Обидно, право слово.
Как для импрессионизма работа действительно хороша.
