Painting from Uncertainty - a Unique Exhibition in Frankfurt Automatic translate

Nine years after the 2003 exhibition, which attracted a large audience, Frankfurter Kunstverein Gallery again presents an exhibition dedicated to exceptional painting in the summer of 2012. The exhibition entitled “Painting from Uncertain Places” includes works by Tilo Baumgärtel, Leipzig, Susanne Kühn (Susanne Kühn, Freiburg), Anji Majewski (Berlin) and Hannah Mishanek (Hannes Michannek (Hannes Michannek), Frankfurt), four artists who work in the style of fetish-like and figurative painting.

Artists reveal the topic of the ability to create their own worlds, questions about the role and place of man in the world. The environment appears in the form of three dominants - nature, culture and society, which have the form of uncertainties, i.e. some space. A red thread through the paintings of the exhibition is the image of a human figure in conditions of uncertainty. Thanks to a well-thought-out composition, artists create layered structures of the atmosphere, which leads to convincing images of imaginary worlds, which, as a rule, convey a sense of the present, rather than a critical analysis of the present.

Suzanne Kuhn’s works are always hybrid - they are composed of a mixture of landscape, portrait, still life, familiar elements seem alien to us in such a configuration. Spatial images refer us to the European Renaissance, the works of Giovanni Bellini, Sandro Botticelli, artists who raised the issue of the relationship between man and the world.

Accused of mysticism, the paintings of Tilo Vaumgartel reveal to us images of fabulous animals and humans in dark, unrealistic landscapes. The works are full of allusions to films in the fantasy genre, in particular, to the work of David Lynch. The starting point of the artist’s creativity is a psychological game with fragments of everyday life, personal observations. Cool atmosphere, dark tones, depth of space testify to the artist as a master of expression of the subconscious.

The vibrant colors of Hannah Mishanek’s paintings resemble the landscapes of the early Renaissance. A top view of the tiny architectural configurations, villages, mountains, lakes and oceans that look like perfect landscapes reveals to us a comprehensive description of the universe. In this world, many events that occur simultaneously affect each other in all their diversity and, possibly, incompatibility.

Anji Majewski’s work includes multidisciplinary multimedia installations, collections, films and performances, in addition to painting. She always works on a project-oriented basis. Noteworthy is its consistent focus on the quick-moving relationship between form and content. Her photorealistic, figurative painting touches on existential topics such as friendship, love, play, death, mystery.
