"Fathers and Sons" - a play by an Irish playwright on the stage of the On Liteiny Theater Automatic translate
ST. PETERSBURG. Last weekend, fans at the Liteiny Theater saw the new work of Sergey Morozov - the play Fathers and Sons. The characters of the production are well known to the audience since school times, they come from the Turgenev novel "Fathers and Sons". However, the basis of the play staged by Sergei Morozov was not the famous novel written by Turgenev.
The main director of the theater decided to turn to the play “Fathers and Sons”, written by Irish playwright Brian Phil. A connoisseur of Russian classics, the playwright himself translated Turgenev’s novel into English, but in his translation this work became a play. In his reading of the novel, Brown Phil did not just retell the plot, but tried to take a fresh look at the problems raised in this work.
The performance staged by “On Liteiny” was another attempt to understand family relationships, again raising the topic of family values, love and loneliness. This staging of a classic, which has become modern, has turned into a reflection-play, helping everyone to understand what his place in the world today is. The performance asks eternal questions, but whether answers can be found on them is still unclear.
The original set design of the play, created by Oleg Golovko, turned the stage into two parallel worlds, where the characters live at the same time. These worlds of lies and truth are separated only by bright light and thin curtains. For the musical accompaniment of the production, Vladimir Bychkovsky used the music created by the legendary Petersburg composer Oleg Karavaychuk.
The audience appreciated the premiere with a standing ovation, for a long time not letting the artists go off the stage, and fans of the Na Liteiny Theater called it the most relevant and modern performance. The next time, “Fathers and Sons”, viewers will see November 26th.
