Konstantin Fam again on the list of candidates for the Oscar Automatic translate
BEVERLY HILLS. Konstantin Fam’s short film about the Holocaust is nominated for an Oscar.
Director Konstantin Fam has been working on the Holocaust film trilogy for several years. The choice of topic is not accidental. The desire to learn more about his ancestors led him to an unexpected result. It turned out to be easier to find Vietnamese relatives on the part of my father, political immigrant Nguyen Kong Taka, than Belarusian ancestors through my mother. Jewish descent left them no chance of salvation during World War II. The Witnesses Almanac, which began preparations for its creation at the New York Academy of Motion Picture Arts (NYFA), is a tribute to the ancestors and millions of Jews exterminated during the Holocaust.
This topic is a personal pain and other members of the crew. The short film "Brutus", nominated for an Oscar 2016 in the category "short meter", is the second part of the almanac. It is based on the story of the same name from the collection Psí život of the Czech novelist, poet and journalist Ludvik Aškenazy. After emigrating to the West in 1968, after the entry of Soviet tanks into Czechoslovakia, the name of the famous writer and his work were banned in the USSR. “Brutus” is a German shepherd who was separated from her former mistress, a Jewish woman, Rosanna (Oksana Fandera’s excellent acting work), and turned into a living instrument of death in a concentration camp. The viewer, according to the director, should not only see the tragic events through the eyes of the dog, but also “be in her place”, terrified of the ease with which one can manipulate the mind.
The first part - "Shoes" - was nominated for an Academy Award three years ago. The plot of the first part of the almanac was born after visiting Auschwitz, in the museum complex of which you can see mountains of shoes and shoes, surviving their owners who died of starvation or burned in gas stoves. The final part of the trilogy - “Violin” - is on its way to the viewer.
