ST. PETERSBURG. For the 12th time, theatergoers in St. Petersburg meet participants in the Five Evenings festival, which bears the name of the classic of Russian drama Alexander Volodin. Initially, the program of the Volodinsky festival consisted of performances based on the plays of a famous playwright. This year, the organizers of the Five Evenings festival have changed their approach to selecting performances for the festival program.

Marina Dmitrievskaya, art director of the festival, explained this decision by the fact that theaters, which have performances of plays by Alexander Volodin in their repertoire, often want to show them at the St. Petersburg festival. However, even highly professional directors approach the creation of performances traditionally, which makes their choice for festival shows difficult.

This time the festival presents only one play by the playwright. Viewers will see the premiere performance of “Dulsinea” staged by director Kirill Semin in the St. Petersburg Small Drama Theater. This performance, presented at the Liteiny Theater, will end the Five Evenings festival on February 10th.

All other performances are based on plays by contemporary authors. Each of them tells about human destinies, is filled with sympathy for people who are not related to the heroes of our time. Marina Dmitrievskaya believes that these performances are united by the concept of “Volodinsky”.

The first performance of the festival was the work of the educational theater of the Mkhatov school-studio "Unreconciled Concert", presented to spectators on February 6 at the theater "On Liteiny". This is the directorial work of Viktor Ryzhakov. The next day, viewers will see the work of artists from Novokuybyshevsk. The play “Tanya-Tanya” by O. Mukhina, directed by Denis Bokuradze, became the Golden Mask nominee this year.
