"King’s Favorite Dance" - the premiere of a modern reading of the history of Cinderella at the Vologda Drama Theater Automatic translate

VOGDA. According to a long-established tradition, the artists of the Vologda Theater, on the eve of the New Year, give young spectators a wonderful gift - a new fairy tale story. There was still a whole week until the New Year, when on December 24 the first spectators came to the hall of the drama theater to see the premiere performance with an intriguing title - “The King’s Favorite Dance”.

The play script was written by the playwright Sergei Kuvaev, taking as the basis the plot of the classic fairy tale “Cinderella”. In the new version of the fairy tale, only the main characters remained, solving the same problems as the characters of the beloved "Cinderella", they only live in a more modern world. Therefore, it does not immediately become clear to the audience that the characters and the plot of the play are familiar to them from early childhood.

In a new reading of the old tale, the king grows cabbage, and then prints "cabbage money." Butlers appear before the audience in the guise of modern security, designating their position with dark glasses and walkie-talkies. The prince is like a rocker, only busy playing football. All state problems are solved by the pope king, since they are not at all interested in the prince.

Everything changes in the life of the prince when he meets Princess Margarita at the ball, who in the old fairy tale was named Cinderella. Their joint dance changes the king’s life, making him realize that he did a lot in this life. As befits a fabulous story, it ends with a wedding and the restoration of justice.

Thanks to the joint work on the play by Sergei Kuvaev and director Alexander Chupin, the fairy tale lacks truly negative characters. Even the stepmother, whose role Marianna Vitavskaya plays remarkably, looks like a very charming woman. She is sure that if you dream correctly, then all dreams will come true necessarily.
