At the Voronezh Drama Theater. Koltsov premiered the play "Sea" based on the stories of Ivan Bunin Automatic translate
VORONEZH. Drama Theater Koltsova canceled the 145th anniversary of his eminent countryman Ivan Bunin by staging a play based on his works. The birthday of the writer, whose talent was awarded the Nobel Prize, was celebrated on October 22nd. The next evening, drama artists presented the audience with the premiere of the play “The Sea,” the idea and production of which belongs to Vladimir Petrov, the artistic director of the theater.
The director combined in the play three Bunin works written by the writer at different times, however, connected by a common theme and imbued with nostalgia. Vladimir Petrov not only staged the play, but also is the author of the staging of the stories.
The production was based on the story “In the night sea”, which takes place on the deck of the ship, where the incident brought two men together. Many years ago, they were in love with one woman who had long been dead. Of these, one was her husband, the other a lover. From the dialogue of former rivals, it becomes clear that they are now indifferent to her death, although once these relations drove them crazy.
This leisurely conversation, during which one of the former rivals also indifferently speaks about the proximity of his death, makes the audience think how scary to live when you do not care about anything, when a living person becomes an insensitive shell. The stories “The Most Beautiful of the Sun” and “The Rose of Jericho” were used by the director as deviations from the dialogue, helping the public come to this idea.
The stories are united by the general atmosphere created by the design dividing the stage space into two levels. The upper part becomes a deck where two men are talking, and the stage itself turns into a street of a medieval city, where artists talk about the love of Petrarch and Laura.
The performance ended with a storm of applause.
