MOSCOW. Musical Theater named after On August 27, Pokrovsky presented the new work of director G. Isahakyan - the opera The Little Devil, written by composer Alexander Zhurbin. The material for creating the opera was a famous novel written by Fedor Sologub.
The authors of the libretto for the opera performance were A. Zhurbin and V. Semenovsky, who wrote the play “Creature” based on The Little Demon. It was this play that inspired the composer to create this opera. Fedor Sologub worked on the novel for about ten years. Alexander Zhurbin took half the time. However, as the composer says, writing this work, where all the characters are negative, was not easy.
Although The Little Devil is presented on the poster as an opera performance, it is closer in style to the musical. There are a lot of conversational dialogues in it, solo numbers of the singers resemble pop songs that brought fame to the author. The libretto, co-written with humor, also successfully amuses the public.
The first show of The Little Demon completed the last season of the Chamber Theater. Presented to the public on June 19, the opera performance preceded the composer’s anniversary, becoming the world premiere of Alexander Zhurbin’s new opera.
In the season that opens, Kamerny fans will have the opportunity to see not only four premiere performances, but also familiar performances that have long been loved by the audience. The theater will host two festivals. One of them, dedicated to Boris Pokrovsky, will begin in January. According to established tradition, this will be a retrospective show of the performances created by the Master.
In the spring of the festival of performances, the director and conductor of which was Gennady Rozhdestvensky, they will celebrate the anniversary of the theater’s music. The maestro will celebrate his 85 years at the conductor’s console, the premiere of the opera Servilia, written by Rimsky-Korsakov.
