In the competitive program of the Locarno Film Festival Russian film Automatic translate
According to a message on the official website of the 68th Locarno International Film Festival, his competition program included the film of the Russian director Bakur Bakuradze “Brother Deyan”.
“We immediately thought about which festivals it is better to apply for. We thought about Berlin, but the film was not ready for it yet. It seems to me that Locarno is a very interesting festival of auteur cinema, especially since we have never been there. Locarno really wanted the film, they informed us about it right away, ”Julia Mishkenene, producer of the film, shared her thoughts.
In the center of the plot of the film “Brother Deyan” is the story of a former Serbian army general Deyan Stanich, hiding in small Balkan villages from the Hague court. The picture, shot in Serbian, is an excerpt from the biography of General Ratko Mladic, arrested in 2011 by Interpol and accused of war crimes by the Hague Tribunal.
Bakuradze’s rivals at the film festival will be such new films as “Cosmos” by Polish director Andrei Zhulawski, “Truth Now, Falsehood Later” by Hon San Su (Korea), “Not Home Cinema” by Chantal Ackerman (France), “Schneider vs. Bach” by Alex Baths of Warmerdam (Holland).
In addition, the work of Russian directors Yegor Shevchenko and Rinat Bekchintayev, “Worker from the East,” entered the international short film competition. The authors of the film are students of the Moscow School of New Cinema, in which Bakur Bakuradze teaches.
Also in the framework of the film festival in Swiss Locarno will be a retrospective of films by Marlena Khutsiev - a classic of Soviet cinema. Spectators will be presented to his films “It was the month of May”, “Infinity”, “Two Fedor”, “Ilyich Outpost”, “July Rain” and “Afterword”. The program dedicated to the works of Khutsiev also included the documentary film “Khutsiev. The motor is coming! ”Peter Shepotinnik.
Over the years, such famous filmmakers as Aleksey German, Kira Muratova, Aleksey Mizgirev and Alexander Sokurov became laureates of the international film festival in Locarno. Last year, the film “Fool” by Yuri Bykov took part in the main competition, who received the award for best actor (actor Artyom Bystrov).
