MOSCOW. The winners of last year’s theater festival, held in Kolomna, where theaters of small Russian cities showed their works, were given the opportunity to present performances awarded the main awards on the capital’s stage. For two evenings, viewers could see them on the stage of the Theater of Nations.
The right of the first exit to the capital’s stage was granted to the artists of the Tatar theater from the city of Almetyevsk. The performance “Romeo and Juliet” staged at the theater became the winner among large-scale performances. Iskander Sakaev, the director of the play, says that this is not just the transfer of Shakespeare’s famous play to the stage.
When working on the play, the artists imagined what it would look like if the great playwright wrote his famous play in the Tatar language, and then put it in the Tatar theater. According to the director, while working on the play, they tried on the image of Tatar Shakespeare. This was the reason for choosing the Tatar language for the performance. The production, shown to viewers on March 26, features vibrant acting and strong directing.
Yevgeny Mironov, who is the artistic director of the festival, invited Iskander Sakaev to stage the play at the Theater of Nations next season. At the same time, he noted that the main goal of this festival is to find talent. It is very important to provide an opportunity for directors who have shown their talent to try themselves on the capital’s stage.
The next day, the audience saw the performance of the Tilsit Theater, who had arrived in Moscow from the city of Sovetsk. Their performance "Two poor Romanians…", staged by Eugene Marcelli, became the winner among the performances of small forms. Critics called the performance with the participation of artists Irina Nesmiyanova and Nikolai Zubarenko "a production where everyone is good."
