Russian film nominated for an Oscar Automatic translate

LOS ANGELES. This morning, an event took place in Los Angeles, at which the nominees for the most prestigious award in the field of modern cinema, the 2015 Oscar, became known. For the first time in the years of its existence, live awards announced candidates for figurines in all 24 nominations. So, the Russian film directed by Andrei Zvyagintsev “Leviathan” was included in the final list of nominees for the Academy Award in the category “Best Foreign Language Film”. At the preliminary stage of selecting films for this nomination, 83 films were sent to the American Academy of Sciences, which became a real record for the award.

Four more films in the nomination “Best Foreign Language Film” will compete for the main world award in the field of cinema - these are films “Wild Stories” (Argentina), “Ida” (Poland), “Mandarins” (Estonia) and “Timbuktu” )Mauritania). And for the title of the best film of this year, the paintings “Hotel Grand Budapest” (9 nominations in different categories), “Birdman” (9 nominations), “Simulation Game” (8 nominations), “American Sniper” (6 nominations) and film "Adolescence" (6 nominations).

Recall that recently the Russian “Leviathan” won the Golden Globe in the same category, and also received an award for the best screenplay at the Cannes Film Festival and almost two dozen other film awards around the world. For Russia, this is the first Oscar nomination since 2008, then Nikita Mikhalkov’s film “12” went to the finals. The last golden statuette to our country in 1995 was brought by Mikhalkov’s painting “Burnt by the Sun”. The 87th Oscar Award Ceremony will be held February 22 in Los Angeles.
