MOSCOW. Within the framework of the fourth international festival “Cinema of Friends”, dedicated to the cinematic successes of neighboring countries, screenings of the best films of the CIS and Baltic countries will be organized in a number of Moscow cinemas from September 25 to 29. The screening program included documentary, animated and feature films, awarded at prestigious international film festivals.
According to the Moscow Department of Culture, the festival will feature 15 works from almost all the CIS and Baltic countries. This list includes documentaries of the Belarusian director Viktor Aslyuk, who have already earned more than 30 international prizes. Victor Asluk takes the basis of his stories about folk crafts in modern Belarus. The film “Blind dates” by Levan Koguashvili, which tells about the beauties of Georgia, will also be shown. This tape was awarded with a special jury prize at the Abu Dhabi festival, as well as three awards at the international film festival in Sofia and prizes in Yerevan, Odessa, Wiesbaden. And the work of Shamil Aliyev “Stepnyak” will be released - the film tells the story of the life of a steppe man living far from civilization. At the beginning of 2014, the picture was awarded the prize as "Best Film" at the London Rainbow Film Festival.
Also within the framework of the festival, meetings will be held with cinematographers of the CIS countries, lectures and performances. Participants of the festival will be able to find out how modern Kyrgyz films were able to become national blockbusters, how independent films are shot in Kazakhstan and how they then get to the Cannes Film Festival, and also whether the cinematic crisis has ended in the post-Soviet space.
“At the level of the program’s formation, we were interested in tracing and understanding how one country or another manages to integrate into the modern cinematographic process, how it is possible to create progressive, fashionable cinema without changing its traditions and original, original ideas about cinema language,” commented Vasilisa Orestova, Director of the Moscow Cinema GBUK. She also noted that all films will be shown in cinemas of the Moscow Cinema network: Zvezda, Cosmos, Tula, Fakel, Circular Panorama, Saturn and Sputnik. Everyone can visit these cinemas, as the entrance will be free.
