In Voronezh, staged the play "Poor People" based on a play by a modern author Automatic translate
VORONEZH. The Voronezh Youth Theater supplemented its repertoire with another performance intended for an adult audience. On April 15, viewers saw the play “Poor People” staged on the Small Stage of the Youth Theater by director Alexander Sidorenko. Although the title of the production refers the public to Dostoevsky’s famous novel, this performance is not its stage version.
The basis of the Voronezh "Poor People" was the play "Lovelace", written by a contemporary - the famous playwright of the capital Valery Semenovsky. The playwright singled out a sentimental love story by Makar Devushkin from the famous novel. Since the novel consists of the correspondence of Makar and Varenka, Semenovsky included in his play a new character who received the name Someone.
This character with caustic irony comments on Makar’s correspondence with Varenka, transforming several more characters in the course of the action. Someone, whose role is played by Vasily Markov, becomes either a servant or a neighbor of Makar Devushkin. From a former lover of the heroine, Someone turns into a rich patron of Varenka.
The role of Varenka, Alexander Sidorenko, entrusted to the young actress Yekaterina Pukhnacheva, but the director himself appeared in the role of Makar Devushkin. Sidorenko substantiated the choice for staging the Small Stage by the fact that he considers the performance to be very intimate.
For this reason, the director decided to bring him closer to the audience, and so that they would not be distracted from the action, the scenery on the stage was minimal. The necessary space is created using a huge spinning cube. There are no walls in it, and it turns into the necessary space with the help of antique furniture and costumes of heroes.
Viewers are immersed in the atmosphere of the performance when they purchase the performance program, made in the form of a folded letter.
