MOSCOW. Spectators who visited the capital’s Et Cetera Theater on April 29 were the first to see the new work of Gleb Cherepanov, the director who managed to gain wide popularity in the theater world in a short time. Two successful directorial work in one of the most iconic Moscow theaters - Moscow Art Theater. Chekhov, about one of which, "Double Bass", allowed to talk about Cherepanov, as a master of unexpected stage decisions.
Now, at the Et Cetera Theater, the director presented the performance “Birds”, staged based on the play of the great ancient Greek master of comedy Aristophanes. On April 29, a pre-premiere performance was held. The official premiere of "Birds" is scheduled for May 12, but for those who are interested in getting acquainted with the new work of Gleb Cherepanov, there is such an opportunity - on April 30, the performance will be shown again.
The young director came up with the idea of this production during his participation in the Director’s Laboratory, which took place at the Et Cetera Theater. His proposal to stage the Aristophanian "Birds" interested the theater management. Work began with the selection of a team of actors capable of embodying Cherepanov’s plan on the stage of the theater.
According to the director, the play by Aristophanes, created more than two thousand years ago, is frighteningly modern. It is frightening that over the millennia that have passed since its inception, people’s lives are still filled with arrogance and empty chatter. The play has many parallels with modernity, in which there is a demand for hostility, intolerance towards other people’s opinions.
“Birds” is deservedly considered the best work of the ancient Greek author. The director’s reading of the play by Gleb Cherepanov, the magnificent play of the acting team, allowed the audience to see a funny and surprisingly modern performance.
