KIROV. On February 18, the Kirov Drama Theater presented the audience with a premiere performance staged by director Vladimir Zhdanov based on the play by Yulia Ionushayte “I am a soldier, mother!” In the dramatic competition "Free Theater", held in 2011, this play was the absolute winner, having received the Grand Prix.
Having received such high praise at the competition, the play attracted the attention of directors. Spectators from Moscow, Kostroma, Omsk and Donetsk already managed to see it on the stages of their theaters. Now, with the stage version of the play by Julia Ionushayte, read by Vladimir Zhdanov, the audience of Kirov, who attended the premiere, also got acquainted.
The play, written in the form of a monologue of its main character, is dedicated to the military conflict that took place in 2008 in South Ossetia. However, the director turned the monologue into a full-fledged performance, where the life of a nineteen-year-old is traced from the first days of his childhood that remained in his memory to the moment when his life ended.
When staging the play, the director unusually used the stage, placing spectators on it next to the actors. According to Vladimir Zhdanov, since the performance is chamber and is played on the main stage, in this way all the nuances of the actors’ experience can be brought to the attention of the audience.
About 120 spectators are accommodated on the stage. Many theaters already use this option of staging performances, but in the Kirov Theater, spectators got on stage for the first time. The main roles in the play are played by actors Ivan and Elena Shevelyova. The younger Ivan Shevelev, who has repeatedly appeared on stage in theatrical productions, also took part in the play.
The performance “I am a soldier, mother!” Gives each of the spectators the opportunity to understand that no one is safe from the fate of his heroes. Fate is not chosen.
