The premiere of a new work by Kama Ginkas - "Lady Macbeth of our county" Automatic translate
MOSCOW. On the 28th of November, on the Bolshoi stage of the Moscow Art Theater, the premiere of a new work by director Kama Ginkas took place. The play, called “Lady Macbeth of Our County,” is based on a tragic story told in the famous story by Nikolai Leskov. The director changed only its original name - “Mtsensk Uyezd” turned into “our county”, thereby emphasizing that the problems raised by the writer do not have a statute of limitations. According to Kama Ginkas, when he read the story of Leskov, he was shocked by the tragic paradox - all the terrible crimes were committed because of love - it would seem, the brightest feeling.
Each person has a need to be free, and if this desire is not possible, and the limit of patience is exhausted, then he can begin to do terrible things. From this come the beginning of the revolution and modern terrorism. There is no need for a free man to express himself in such a perverse way.
In his work, Kama Ginkas makes an attempt to trace how a woman’s impulse to free herself from the “safe prison”, which in essence is her five-year marriage, ends with monstrous crimes.
In all the performances staged by Kama Ginkas, a special place is given to the relationship between a man and a woman, therefore the director’s appeal to the Leskov story is quite natural. However, Ginkas still managed to make a surprise for Moscow theater-goers by inviting the main role to actress Elizaveta Boyarskaya, who had long mastered the roles of tragic heroines, playing them at the MDT theater, with director Lev Dodin.
The director first works with this talented actress. Ginkas and Boyarskaya were not previously acquainted, but their cooperation was successful - the performance was almost ready in just two weeks.
