ST. PETERSBURG. The young Theater "Workshop", from the date of creation of which only three years passed, on May 19th presented on its stage a unique premiere to the audience - a performance based on Sholokhov’s novel "The Quiet Don". The duration of the play, not counting three intermissions, was 8 hours.

The troupe of the Theater Workshop consists of former students of the Academy of Theater Arts, who studied at the course with Grigory Kozlov. The premiere "Quiet Flows the Don" is also played by Kozlov’s students, the pre-graduation course. The preparation of the performance lasted several years, students of three sets of teacher and director Grigory Kozlov participated in the work. Only the last, third set of young actors, completed this large-scale performance.

The director conceived this production as the first part of an even larger-scale work - a dilogy telling about the tragedy of the Civil War. The second part will be a performance based on Bulgakov’s novel “Turbine Days”, which is planned to be shown to viewers in the fall.

Over the years of the creation of the play, so many ideas were born that the ready-made pieces of the performance had to be reduced, leaving only short scenes from them, dotted with supporting the storyline of the production. If we put together all the developments, then the performance would take twice as much time. However, watching an eight-hour performance is no less difficult than playing it on stage. Therefore, a special time was allocated for the “Quiet Flows the Don” show - at one o’clock on weekends.

Despite the unusual duration of the performance, the audience was so captivated by its action and wonderful acting that almost everyone was happy to watch it to the end. The performance emotionally touches every spectator; the tragedy of human destinies with the lyrical component of the production is closely intertwined in it.
