ST. PETERSBURG. The exhibition-fair of historical literature, held in the first May days, was dedicated to the celebration of the 70th anniversary of the Great Victory. The event featured unique rare editions, as well as meetings with writers and the presentation of new works.
On the eve of Victory Day celebrations, special attention of visitors to the fair was riveted to publications of the war years, as well as books devoted to events of that terrible time. Memoirs of participants in the war and the leaders of special operations, original maps and detailed schemes with the movements of Soviet and German troops. Historians, teachers and students with great interest among the proposed exhibits were looking for real treasures that could shed light on the history of those times. The special solemn reverent atmosphere of the exhibition was supplemented by soldier’s porridge with stew and sweet tea, which were offered to the guests of the event.
Everyone with the help of the historian Andrei Ryabkov could try to find their relatives who died during the war according to the compiled lists, and well-known Russian writers held master classes on military art.
Also, special attention was attracted by the public from several books not related to the war. The unique work of the Russian researcher Nikolai Danilevsky “Darwinism: a critical study” was presented at the fair, where it could be immediately acquired. Another work that aroused the interest of the guests of the literary event was the novelty of the historical literature “Everyday Life of the Space and Corn Era: Destruction of a Great Style” by the historian Natalia Lebenoy, who presented the Khrushchev era in the USSR in all its details. On the pages of the book, the reader will find out how refrigerators entered the life of a Soviet person, what stockings were in fashion then, and much more.
One of the most significant events, both for the organizers and the guests of the fair, was the presentation of the book “The Military Diary of Tanya Vassoevich”, which, along with the well-known diary of Tanya Savicheva, became a unique publication that fully conveys the feelings of a schoolgirl who lived not only in the besieged city but also in terrible wartime.
In total, the organizers held more than 20 events at the exhibition-fair of historical literature, including meetings with historians and writers, thematic musical concerts and screenings of historical films. During the days of the fair, more than two thousand fans of a good book visited the fair. Among the guests were veterans of the Great Patriotic War, whom the organizers of the exhibition presented books in honor of the 70th anniversary of the Great Victory.
