The 2014 Debut Award winners in the Big Prose nomination were prose writer from Israel Pavel Tokarenko for the novel “The Nail” and his colleague from Ukraine Maxim Matkovsky, who wrote the novel “The Parrot in the Bear’s Den”. The winners received a symbolic statuette of the prize in the form of a bird and a cash prize of 1 million rubles.
Storybook of Mikhail (Moshe) Shanin from Severodvinsk won the nomination "Small Prose". The winner in the "Poetry" category was Anastasia Afanasyeva from Ukraine, in the "Dramaturgy" section, the award was received by Irina Vaskovskaya from Russia with the play "Galatea Sobakina". The winner in the Essay Studies nomination was Arslan Khasavov from Chechnya. Each prize winner received a certificate for one million rubles.
The message posted on the official website of the Literary Prize Debut states that the jury’s fundamental criterion for choosing the winners of this season was "the aesthetic independence of the author from current literary trends." The jury also noted that the 15th “Debut” season of the literary prize will be remembered by everyone as a peculiar stage of immersion of modern authors in somewhat forgotten village prose.
