The opening ceremony of the festival took place on September 19, an event was held at the Gafeschyan Arts Center. During the ceremony, the book “Literary Ark-2013” was presented, which collected essays, poems and stories of writers and poets who participated in the festival last year.
The Literary Ark festival is held annually and every year it is gaining more momentum. Nerses Ter-Vardanyan, Deputy Minister of Culture of Armenia, noted in his speech that back in 2000 this event was held exclusively with enthusiasm, and already today the whole cultural society of not only Armenia, but the whole world knows about the festival. “Every year the number of festival participants increases and more and more new countries are attracted, and the final book is already published in different languages,” Ter-Vardanyan said.
During the literary event on September 20, a screening of the film "How I Live Now" was organized, based on the novel by festival guest Meg Rosoff. After the show, students of the Faculty of Journalism of Yerevan State University were able to chat with a British writer at a literary forum. Meg Rosoff shared her impressions of the festival, and told students how she writes her novels. “In order to write a story, you must first relive this story, this topic,” she said.
Also, as part of the event, a number of excursions to the sights of Armenia (Tatev, Echmiadzin, Evartnots) and a trip to Nagorno-Karabakh (Tigranakert, Stepanakert, Shushi) will be organized for guests of the country. The Literary Ark-2014 festival runs through September 28th.
