YAROSLAVL. Visitors to the Yaroslavl Art Museum had the opportunity to get acquainted with the work of a unique artist, master of portraits of Alexander Shilov. The exhibition, which opened on November 30, is dedicated to the anniversary of the name gallery of the academician of the Russian Academy of Arts, the people’s artist of the USSR. Alexander Shilov Gallery celebrates its 20th anniversary this year.
Today in her collection there are more than 1,200 works written by Shilov. All of them were donated by the author to the state, that is, the collection belongs to Russia. The creation of the gallery began with 350 works by the artist, which constituted the exposition, located in a small mansion on the old Znamenka street.
Today, the gallery of Alexander Shilov is located in a large new building, built specifically for her on Borovitsky Hill, becoming the cultural center of the capital. By visiting the anniversary exhibition, residents of Yaroslavl will be able to see only a small part of the works created by Alexander Shilov. The exposition included 35 paintings with images of famous politicians, people of art.
Opening the exhibition for the first visitors, Alexei Fedorchuk, deputy director of the museum, noted that the ceremonial portrait in Russian art occupies a special place, becoming a separate historical genre. Therefore, it is very interesting how the development of this genre continues in contemporary art.
This exhibition cannot be considered ordinary, because it represents the work of a recognized leader in this direction of Russian art. Most of the people whose portraits are on display are well known to museum guests. Among them are Evgeny Matveev, Eldar Ryazanov, Mikhail Kazakov. There was a place at the exhibition and lyrical portraits of women, as well as landscape and still life.
The exhibition of Alexander Shilov in Yaroslavl is open until January 28.
